As the Lead Museum Educator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Jacksonville, Florida, I developed curriculum and structured educational activities centered on the museum’s contemporary permanent collection (1960’s to present) and featured exhibitions for Duval County academic and visual art teachers, museum tours, community events and special programs.

Rainbow Artists: Art and Autism across the Spectrum

Rainbow Artists: Art and Autism across the Spectrum is an educational program designed exclusively for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The program utilizes the creative arts as the foundation to enhance students’ verbal communication, social relations, sensory development, and self-expression.  Parents, teachers, and museum educators’ collaborate to tailor the activities to each student’s needs.  Students’ learning is amplified through exploration of materials, museums galleries, and the ArtExplorium loft.

Voice of the People

Voice of the people is a program designed to improve students’ critical thinking, writing, and oral communication skills through the process of Art Criticism.  Students select a piece from MOCA’s exhibitions and permanent collection that intrigues them.  In groups, they learn how to describe, analyze, and interpret the works of art.  Next, they write a script and record their critique onto mp3 files that are available to all visitors of the museum to listen to while visiting the museum.

ArtFusion

ArtFusion provides a creative environment with hands on activities for children and adults alike.  Activities are designed to provide an introduction to basic art concepts and to the Museum’s permanent collection and featured exhibitions.
